Matt’s career began in the United States Marine Corps, After his time was completed with the Marines, Matt continued to serve as a professional fire fighter, first with the Great Lakes Fire Department, then with the Milwaukee Fire Department.

While working full time with the Milwaukee Fire Department, Matt earned his bachelor’s degree at UW-Milwaukee, double majoring in Finance and Accounting. Going on, he then self-studied and passed his CPA exams. After this, Matt made the career change from firefighter into financial services with BDO, as a Tax Associate. Here Matt gained experience working with complex, multinational returns for large corporations and pass-through entities.

Seeking to combine the perspective and understanding of a CPA to a more personal aspect of finances, Matt joined Affiliated Financial Advisors as Financial Advisor/Tax Manager. He worked with individuals during the financial planning process, adding the benefit of tax planning and proactive tax advising.

After a personal loss, the desire to have more agency over his time to be with family, and to better serve individuals that would benefit from the combined skills of CPA and financial advisor, Matt started his own firms, Dream Lake Financial & Dream Lake Tax and Accounting. Through Dream Lake Financial, Matt provides personalized financial advising, using his experience and understanding as a CPA, knowledge of investment and planning strategies, and personal experience of operating his own business, to come alongside other business owners and individuals, helping to keep their business and families financially sound through responsible financial planning and management.
